sophie song

Sophie Song is an organizer and engineer with experience in algorithmic accountability, differential privacy, data science and Asian American organizing. Previously, Sophie was at Movement Alliance Project where they led research and advocacy combating algorithmic inequality in the Child Welfare System and other high stakes decision making contexts such as public benefits and the criminal legal system. In that role they helped lead a coalition that limited the use of predictive risk assessment in Pennsylvania’s child welfare system and helped connect data scientists with advocates and journalists across the country.

Sophie studied Computer Science at RIT. She was a 2019 Civic Digital Fellow where she was a Data Scientist at the US Census Bureau where they worked on differential privacy for the American Community Service. Prior to that Sophie worked in the private sector as a software engineer and data scientist at institutions such as Intuit and Google.

Sophie was also a former Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA) fellow and founding member of the APALA Philadelphia Chapter.

Sophie is working for Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) supporting a range of tech issues including privacy, labor, and algorithmic accountability.
