Living our values: our diversity referral awardees

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are among some of our core values. We’ve baked DEI into everything we’ve done from day one and we’re proud to be the first organization in Washington or politics to offer a Diversity Referral Award.

We launched the referral award in 2018, following the recommendations of the Kapor Center, which found that diversity referral awards were an effective intervention that improved recruitment and retention of underrepresented tech talent.

As part of this, we’ve granted $4500 to ten recipients who referred us to nine fellows in order to thank them for helping us build a more inclusive Congress:

Laura Bate

Sara Egozi

Caleb Gardner

Nate Wilkins

Rashida Richardson

Alyssa Scott

Jen Pahlka (charitable donation made to Code2040 in recipient’s name lieu of receiving award)

Chris Kuang (charitable donation made to Coding it Forward in recipient’s name lieu of receiving award)

Rachel Dodell (charitable donation made to Coding it Forward in recipient’s name lieu of receiving award)

Sean McBride

Whether you’ve passed along the opportunity to one of our fellows or encouraged them to attend our events and apply, we’re grateful that you’re helping us carry out our core values.

And you can help us build our 2021 class by nominating a friend, family member or colleague for the fellowship.

Thank you.
